Looking to dig deep into jazz this summer? Want to learn more about jazz theory, groove, improvisation, and style? Then attend this special Jazz Combo Intensive with jazz pianist and FHS teacher Mr. Kyle Liss!
In this condensed 7 session camp, you will sharpen your jazz skills, motivated by Mr. Liss’s inspiring instruction that comes from his extensive professional background and gigging experience. This program will place a special emphasis on improvisation and expressing yourself on your instrument. Through digging into the many facets of musicianship that contribute to fluency in jazz, you will be empowered to refine your craft and become a more confident jazz player.
Program Includes:
- Seven 9-hour sessions (56 total hours of instruction in program!) that highlight rhythmic/ear/theory training, groove exercises, conceptual improv instruction, jazz history, listening, and group playing
- One hour-long private lesson per student enrolled
- A performance at the end of the program to showcase student progress
Mr. Liss is a music educator, jazz pianist, and composer originally from Chicago, IL. He holds a BA in Music, Jazz Studies emphasis from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, is pursuing a Masters in Music Education from CU Boulder, has gigged as a professional musician since age 16, composed 8 albums worth of original material across a variety of genres and styles, and toured the U.S. with a band he booked and managed for 7 years. He currently serves as the Orchestra/Pit/Assistant Band Director at FHS.
